“Hands-on cooking experience with regional food from Puglia”
Cinzia and Marika of Stile Mediterraneo are both warm and welcoming, as I learned on a recent visit to their cooking school in Squinzano. I only had a day to spend with them, but it was a rich and educational experience and I highly recommend their school.
After a visit to a local cheese maker in Lecce, where I saw how fresh mozzarella is made by hand and sampled a number of local cheeses, we were off to the market to get ingredients for a day of cooking. A wonderful lunch of fresh and local ingredients got us ready to tackle a multiple course menu. Throughout the day, I learned many things about the differences in cuisine across Italy’s regions. Our focus was Puglia and though we were limited by how much we could cook in one day, my hosts shared many tips and background that they learned from their grandmother growing up in the charming, small town just a few kilometers from the sea.
A truly hands-on experience, with great company and an inviting atmosphere. I just wish that I had longer to spend with them!
For anyone looking to learn about local artisans, regional foods, and cooking technique, Stile Mediterraneo is the perfect resource.
